NO MISTAKES ON THIS "FIRST DATE"
June 2, 2023
Local theatre veterans Jessie Villaseñor and Sarah Ruth Smith turn in sometimes poignant, sometimes playful performances, both showing off imaginative takes on some traditional roles. Smith gets to play the ex-girlfriend, displaying her dancing chops as well as her ability to nail nonverbal reactions to the goings-on.

THE PSYCHIC PREDICTS A GOOD TIME
February 20, 2023
The plot revolves around Adam (Robert Vaca), a down-on-his-luck-mystery-writer-turned-would-be-psychic. Vaca channels Woody Allen throughout his performance as a kind of schmuck who is perplexed as much as overjoyed to attract the attention of Laura (Sarah Ruth Smith), an attractive, erudite woman who, with Adam’s “psychic” help, may be convinced that her cheating husband is planning to kill her. Smith proves herself an adept partner to Vaca’s verbal lobs, and their articulate back-and-forth is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the production.

HILL HOUSE IS HAUNTING IN MORRO BAY
October 29, 2022
One of the visitors to Hill House, Eleanor (played by Sarah Ruth Smith), kicks off the supernatural free-for-all with the innocent query, “What’s there to be afraid of?” She slowly becomes the focus of the action (and loud noises), and the other characters begin to revolve around her. Smith’s well-modulated voice—and sturdy source of many of those screams—serves to focus the audience’s attention as the plot spirals out of the characters’ control.

THE MURDER ROOM
June 28, 2018
"...The inspector, with assistance from Constable Abel Howard, calls a few suspects into question. The first of which is the missing person's new bride, Mavis, a young, gold digger type whose marriage to Edgar is less than a week old. Edgar's daughter from his first marriage, Susan (Sarah Smith, who also starred in By the Sea's 2017 production of And Then There Were None), who has a sizable inheritance coming her way, also makes the list. Last, but certainly not least, is Edgar's maid, Lottie...
Every member of the cast is vibrant and perfectly over-the-top in their respective roles. Each actor gets more than a few chances to chew up the scenery, and they all do so with flying colors."

THIS "COUPLE" DELIVERS THE GOODS
January 26, 2020
"Then there’s the Pigeons, played by Jenny Beck and Sarah Ruth Smith in full bloom as the upstairs neighbors who confound Oscar while cooing over Felix. They deserve an ovation all their own, and appreciative audiences have been responding in kind. Embracing their English accents with delicious skill, and vying with each other as to who can coo and cackle the loudest, Beck and Smith are perfectly matched as sisters who ultimately provide the answer to the playwright’s dilemma: how can Oscar and Felix, two so mismatched roommates, survive without killing each other—at least before the end of the show?"

Standout performances include Sarah Ruth Smith—with a great voice and killer legs—as the kindest thespian.
The Prom is a Delightful Romp

"We must all do theatre to find out who we are and to discover who we could become."
